Why not learn a traditional country craft during your stay?
Clitherbecks Farm offers dry stone walling courses for small groups of people. Neil Harland has been building and repairing dry stone walls since his father taught him how to when he was a small boy. Although he has no formal qualifications many drystone walls around the farm have been repaired by him and look set be standing for many decades to come. Neil is a qualified adult education tutor and has developed a small course to teach the basic principles in dry stone wall building.
Ideally groups of 6 people can be taught by one tutor. Protective equipment such as steel toe capped boots, gloves and weatherproof overalls must be provided by attendees. All tools will be provided by Clitherbecks Farm. Should the weather turn nasty we would return to the farm and do some jobs undercover such as wooden gate repair or making feed troughs. Either way, you will learn the basics of a country craft, and hopefully have an enjoyable day (or two) in the countryside actually doing the job.
